Absolutely brothers. Luffy and Zoro.

The exchange between them goes like :

Zoro tries to find Luffy, Luffy creates a ruckus somewhere and Zoro figure out that that is exactly where Luffy might be. Zoro cuts off something huge that stands in his way (creating an equal or even bigger ruckus.)

Zoro : Why can't you sneak in quietly?

(idr his name guy but I feel bad for him) : Sneak in quietly? Look who's talking....

Eustass : Does he know what he's talking about?

Zoro : Did you forget what the plan was?

Luffy : No, I remember! But these fools!...they intentionally spilled the red bean soup!

Insert a picture of Tama enjoying the red bean soup, which she had for the very first time, and the happiness she felt, especially because of the conditions and the whole backstory of the town and there not being enough food.

Zoro : In that case, I gotta cut them all up

Luffy and Zoro are fucking smart, and the only reason a lot of people seem to think otherwise is because of a narrow view of what intelligence seems like.

Luffy:

Always thinking about how to use his Devil Fruit in creative ways

Understands political matters (speech to Vivi in Alabasta)

Most emotionally intelligent character in the series.

Amazing at recruiting new crewmates

Powerset requires great spacial intelligence.

Lowkey makes a lot of good tactical decisions.

Zoro:

Taught himself basic Haki in Alabasta. He hasn't even heard of Haki at this point.

Knows quite a lot about pirates and bounty hunters

Very good with numbers, even in flashbacks! Capable of remembering exactly how many duels he has lost.

Capable of thinking on his feet. (First two examples that come to mind are him testing Nami's character in Arlong Park and him moving the cage in Orangetown.)

I HAVE THESE and my 4 year old cousin sometimes watches Anime with me, She calls One piece as Luffy, eg : Let's watch Luffy. Iss really cute. So we were watching this episode and she tells me : Ayeeee, his earrings are just like yours🥹❤️ and then I explained it to her that my earrings are like his. But it was a very cute moment for me🫶

The cover of Shonen Jump (2000, Issue 36-37) strengthens my conviction that Sandai Kitetsu is the sword that represents the best Zoro (while other swords have always a strong connection to people and their unfilled dreams, ambitions or great hopes and are, in fact, someone else’s heirlooms passed to Zoro with their own “burden” to carry on). Because this picture, in which Zoro holds Kuina’s sword (her dream, her soul) while Luffy holds Kitetsu (the only one sword Zoro truly chose by and for himself) gives me a lot symbolic feelings.

Partially, because Kitetsu is not a sword that Roronoa let people use - while he did offer / let to borrow Wado at occassions (to Nami, in One Piece The Movie: Dead End Adventure or to Mont Blanc Cricket when the man wanted to stop Luffy from coming after Bellamy in Mock Town arc). I mean, Straw Hats are people Roronoa trusts, and who take care for Zoro’s swords when he can’t do that himself. From Chopper carrying Kitetsu on his back in Water 7 to the whole passing the sword from one nakama to another in Adventure of Nebulandia but I don’t think we even saw Zoro entrusting the cursed blade to fool around to anyone, beside Luffy, on this one cover? Just so Luffy could hold it and be cool and happy? Just... wow.

My other reason to feel so much about this picture is just how much Sandai Kitetsu and Zoro have in common. Both were masterless until they met this insane, ambitious man who heard what kind of monster (demon) they are yet decided against all reasons and warnings to take them as his own. A man that proved to be worth their loyalty and obedience - even though Kitetsu and Zoro could be the death to their “master” if he wasn’t enough strong willed (worth) to follow. For Kitetsu, it was Zoro, who knew the sword was cursed but instead of throwing it away, he appreciated the blade. For Zoro it was Luffy, who heard about the “monster in human form” but decided he wanted this ambitious, harsh man (with golden heart) as his first mate and fought against whole marine base to save him and make his nakama.

So, Luffy holding Kitetsu in his hand feels like holding Zoro’s life in the symbolic, spiritual sense. Because Zoro did give his life to Monkey D. Luffy once and for all, to serve and protect and fight side by side Luffy, the Pirate King in the making.

Facing The Force Of A Yonko Again!

Again this cannot be emphasized enough how Oda reminds the protagonists can still be way down by the sheer number of subordinates, even though they have gotten power. As said before, the heavy hitters are here and they won’t hold anything back. This is just like with the Enraged Army, which shows what happens when you are dealing with the big boys.

Luffy startles when his back slams into something warm, relaxing at the shift of metal over metal and Zoro’s foot tapping the back of his.

“Enough fighters for you,” He asks almost giggling in excitement.

Zoro snorts, “I’m sure we could take more, captain.”

“Shishishi, I bet!”

They duck as one, Zoro twisting to block an attack heading for Luffy as Luffy threw the man crowding too close to Zoro’s guard into a group of other, barely avoiding Nami and Usopp.

“Watch were you throw things!” Nami snaps.

“Sorry!” Luffy shouts, using Zoro as a spring board and grinning when Zoro turns instantly, putting them back to back once more. “I’m not really sorry.”

“I won’t tell.”
